St Mary’s Church Fete

This coming Saturday, 3rd August, we are playing at St Mary’s Church Fete in the gardens of The Rectory, Huish Episcopi, Langport, TA10 9QR. Please arrive by 1.30pm for 2pm start. (In past years, the official opening of the fete is at 2pm for 10-15 minutes, but we need to be seated by 2pm in readiness to begin playing at around 2.15pm.) Parking is signposted to a field on the Muchelney road – just around the corner from The Rectory.

Thorney Lakes Proms

Brian asked that members look at their Proms pieces over the coming week ie, Round the Capstan, Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Pomp & Circumstance.

Saturday, 10th August, is the annual Music by the Lakes (Proms evening) at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Park, Thorney, Langport, TA10 0DW. Please arrive at the marquee at 5.45pm for a 6.30pm start. Remember to allow plenty of time for parking and walking to the band marquee. Tickets (the proceeds of which, this year, go to Bridgwater Cancer Research UK) are normally priced at £10 – band members are free, but not their family – but can usually be purchased in advance at a reduced price from Thorney Lakes Reception.

For those band members who’ve not played at the Thorney Lakes Proms before, we normally open the evening with a 30-45 minute session. This is then followed by a long break, during which there are other musical performances, before we play the final session of the evening. You may wish to bring a picnic and something to sit on. It’s quite an occasion and most of the people in the audience bring along a picnic (and some even bring gazebos, bunting, tables, candelabras, lanterns, BBQs, wine, beer, blankets…).

CD Recording

Just a reminder that Sunday 8th September (10am to 5pm) has been agreed for the additional recordings for our CD ie, Oregon, Spartacus, The Water is Wide and, potentially, some other bits and pieces. Again it will take place in Barrington Village Hall. There will be a rehearsal on Tuesday 3rd September, in Langport in place of Thursday 5th, and an additional rehearsal in Barrington on Friday 6th. The band is not required to attend on Saturday 7th, which is when Mike and Dave will be setting up the equipment. Please put the above dates in your diaries.

“The band playing was exceptional this year, and many have commented on the really good mix of carols and popular music.

Once again, huge thanks for playing for us again.”

“Just a note to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of you in the Band for the great event on Sunday. We thought that the Band was on absolutely ‘top form’ and excelled in all aspects of the music.”

Email from the organiser of the Kingsbury Episcopi Methodist Church carol concert held on Sunday 16th Dec 2018

“I just wanted to officially thank you all for the wonderful performance you put on for our Street Fair. It isn’t official yet but I believe this was our best year ever for fund raising. Thank you for being a part of that. I say it every year and every year I mean it, when I say Drayton Street Fair wouldn’t be the same without you. It’s the music that lends the day its particular vibrance, I believe.I hope you all enjoyed yourself and that we’ll see you again next year.”

Email from organiser, Louise Lee, following our performance on Saturday 1st Sep 2018
