St Mary’s Church Fete

Our next engagement is St Mary’s Church Fete on Saturday 3rd August at The Rectory, Huish Episcopi, Langport, TA10 9QR. Please arrive by 1.30pm for 2pm start. (In past years, the official opening of the fete is at 2pm for 10-15 minutes, but we need to be seated in readiness to start playing.)

Thorney Lakes Proms

The following Saturday, 10th August, is the annual Music by the Lakes (Proms evening) at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Park, Thorney, Langport, TA10 0DW. Please arrive at the marquee at 5.45pm for a 6.30pm start. Remember to allow plenty of time for parking and walking to the band marquee. Tickets (the proceeds of which, this year, go to Bridgwater Cancer Research UK) are normally priced at ÂŁ10 (band members are free, but not their family) but can usually be purchased in advance at a reduced price from Thorney Lakes Reception.

For those band members who’ve not played at the Thorney Lakes Proms before, we normally open the evening with a 30-45 minute session. This is then followed by a long break, during which there are other musical performances, before we play the final session of the evening. You may wish to bring a picnic and something to sit on. It’s quite an occasion and most of the people in the audience bring along a picnic (and some even bring gazebos, bunting, tables, candelabras, lanterns, BBQs, wine, beer, blankets…). 🙂

CD Recording

Just a reminder that Sunday 8th September (10am to 5pm) has been agreed for the additional recordings for our CD ie, Oregon, Spartacus, The Water is Wide and, potentially, some other bits and pieces. Again it will take place in Barrington Village Hall. There will be a rehearsal on Tuesday 3rd September, in Langport in place of Thursday 5th, and an additional rehearsal in Barrington on Friday 6th. The band is not required to attend on Saturday 7th, which is when Mike and Dave will be setting up the equipment. Please put the above dates in your diaries.

Lyme Regis – Sunday 21st July

This coming Sunday we’re playing in the band stand on the Promenade (Marine Parade) in Lyme Regis. We will be playing two one-hour sessions from 11.30am-12.30pm, then again from 2-3pm. Please arrive at the seafront band stand for 11am to set up/tune up. A few vehicles will be permitted to drive up to the band stand for offloading up to 10.30am (latest) then, again, not until after 4.30pm.

David requested that as many of us as possible meet in the top car park (Holmbush car park, DT7 3HX) at 10.30am to ensure there are enough members to help carry any instruments and heavy equipment down to the front.

Please remember to bring your banners with you. Fingers crossed for some lovely weather or, at the very least, better than we had last year.

Rock Around the Clock

Brian asked that members memorise the music from bar 59 to the end, the intention being for the band to play the end section standing without music at a future event.

Congratulations to…

Claudia who has just become engaged to be married – best wishes from all your fellow band members Claudia!

Notices from Thursday 11 July 2019

This coming Sunday, 14th July we are playing at the Blake Gardens in Bridgwater, TA6 3NZ. We start at 2pm (please arrive at the band stand for 1.30 pm) and will be playing two sessions: from 2-2.45pm, then from 3.15-4pm. Fortunately, we’ve been informed that 7 cars will be able to park near the band stand.

Please also take your banners home and bring them again to Lyme Regis on Sunday 21st July, returning them to rehearsal on Thursday 25th July.
