Kingsbury Episcopi Band

Notices from Friday 29 March 2019

This evening’s rehearsal was held in Barrington village hall in preparation for our CD recording next weekend.

We were very sorry to hear from Brian that Merv’s wife, Dorothy, had suffered a heart attack. Our thoughts go out to Dorothy and Merv, and band members send their very best wishes to Dorothy for a speedy recovery.

Many congratulations to Heather and Dennis whose first grandchild (a granddaughter) was born on Tuesday.

Next Week’s Rehearsal

Next week’s rehearsal will also be held in Barrington Village Hall (TA19 0JE) at 8pm on Friday 5 April; no rehearsal on Thursday 4 April.

CD Recording

The recording of the CD is almost here! and will take place on Saturday and Sunday (both days), 6 & 7 April at Barrington Village Hall (TA19 0JE). Start and finish times will be advised soon.

Band AGM

The AGM will take place on Thursday 11 April starting at 8pm prompt in the band room at Langport. The following members will be stepping down from the committee: Bob Miller (Chairman), Carolyn Perrin (Secretary), Eilish Blackford and Sylvia Fielding. Bob urged members to consider standing for the committee, as at least 4 places need to be filled. Please contact Bob should you be interested.

At last week’s rehearsal, Valerie reminded members about donations towards the running of the band ie, to help pay for music, equipment, uniforms, hall rental, insurance, website, MD expenses, etc. We do not have mandatory subscriptions, but we would welcome a voluntary donation of, say, £5 per month from those who can afford to pay. Some members donate via monthly standing order, whilst others prefer to make a one-off annual donation. Any amount, however small, will be gratefully received. Additionally, if you are a UK taxpayer, the band is able to reclaim 25p from HMRC for every £1 donated; please ask Valerie for a Gift Aid form and details of how to make a donation.

Charity status

Kingsbury Episcopi Band has gained recognition from HMRC that it is now a charity for tax purposes.

This allows us to continue our great work for the community with renewed vigour and to seek the funding to enhance the services offered to musicians, event organisers and, of course, the public.

The Charity’s objects are:

  1. To advance the education of those of all ages and ability wishing to develop their musicianship of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments by providing instruments, practice facilities, tuition and opportunities to perform in public concerts.
  2. To promote the appreciation and understanding of wind band music for the public benefit and stimulate interest in the art of wind band playing through presentation of public performances.
  3. To further such charitable purposes as the trustees think fit from time to time, in particular, but not limited to, the support of charities in the South Somerset and surrounding areas by helping raise funds or by the provision of grants.

Next Week’s Practice

Brian reminded members that next week’s practice will be held in Barrington Village Hall (TA19 0JE) at 8pm on Friday 29 March. This takes the place of practice for Thursday 28th (ie, no practice this coming Thursday).

CD Recording

The recording of the CD will take place on Saturday and Sunday (both days), 6 & 7 April at Barrington Village Hall (TA19 0JE). In preparation, the previous two practices will be held there, but on Fridays instead of Thursdays (as the hall is booked out on Thursday evenings). This means that practices will be on Friday 29 March and Friday 5 April in Barrington Village Hall at the usual time (no practices on Thursday 28 March and Thursday 4 April).
